How to order oligos
- There are two ways of ordering oligos with Eton, one is for oligos only and the other is for oligos(primers) that will be used in a DNA sequencing order.
- For oligos not associated with a sequencing order, Log in to your account on www.etonbio.com. Select the "Place Order" option under the Oligo Synthesis heading and follow the steps through the order form.
- If you would like to order primers to be used with your sequencing order, please select the "Place Order" option under the DNA Sequencing heading. On the Order Details page, check the box in the "Order Primer" column for reactions with primers that you need to have synthesized. This will bring up a window that will allow you to enter your primer name, sequence and choose a storage option. You only need to do this once for each primer you are ordering, even if it is used multiple times within the same order
Turnaround time and delivery
Orders with large quantities, normalization and purification may take additional time for delivery. See below for information on our turnaround times based on lengths of your oligos.
For oligos up to 25 nucleotides:
Sequencing Use:
San Diego branch customers: Oligos ordered before 10:00am PST will be available the same day for sequencing use. Oligos ordered by 6pm PST will be available the following business day for sequencing use.
Durham branch customers: Oligos ordered before 10:00am EST will be available the same day for sequencing use. Oligos ordered by 6pm EST will be available the following business day for sequencing use.
Boston branch customers: oligos ordered before 9:00 PM EST will be available in 2 business days for sequencing use.
Union branch customers: Oligos ordered by 7pm EST will be available the following business day for sequencing use.

Additional Information
Storage
Oligonucleotides should be stored at -20°C, preferentially in their dried form. Typically the molecule will be stable at this temperature for more than a year. Although oligonucleotides are stable in solution, they are also easily contaminated in this form, therefore Eton recommends that oligonucelotides being stored in solution are separated into aliquots. This not only helps prevent contamination from repeated use but also protects the oligonucleotide from degradation due to repeated freezing and thawing. For your convenience, we provide four extra labels with the data sheet for your aliquot tubes.
Measurement of optical density and concentration
Oligonucelotides are often measured in the units of O.D., or optical density, which is a measure of the light absorbance of a solution. One OD unit is the amount of light that is absorbed by 1mL of sample in a 1cm cuvette at a wavelength of 260nm. This number can be used to calculate the exact amount of oligo present in the solution using the formula: n nmol= (100xOD)/(1.54xA + 1.17xG + .75xC +.92xT) where A, C, T and G represent the number of each nucleotide present in the oligo. Concentration information will also be given in nmol and ug amounts listed on the data sheet provided with each oligo. Information about the melting temperature and the molecular weight of each oligo will also be provided.
Choice of Scale
The synthesis scale refers to the amount of starting material used to synthesize the oligonucleotide, in other words the amount of the first base added to the sequencer, not the amount of final product created. Because synthesis requires a series of steps and no chemical reaction is 100% efficient, we cannot predict the actual final yield, though we do guarantee a minimum final yield for each oligo.
